Sensho-ji Plum Blossom Light-up

At 専称寺, about 500 plum trees blooming on the temple grounds will be illuminated in a magical glow
“専称寺 Plum Light-up” will be held.

Please enjoy a beautiful moment of spring as plum blossoms and lights interweave across the nighttime temple grounds.

During the period, cultural events unique to 専称寺 will be held, including a gagaku performance by Jodo-sect monks, Twilight Nembutsu, and a Hawaiian band performance.
There will also be an exhibition of bamboo lanterns created together with local citizens.

During the light-up period, a photo contest will also be held.
Please submit photos that showcase the charm of 専称寺’s plums, day or night.

2. Sounds of Gagaku

Performance: 浜通り雅楽会

A gagaku concert by Jodo-sect monks.
Enjoy Japan’s ancient music along with the magical scenery of the plum blossoms.

3. Twilight Nembutsu
Every day at 20:00 during the light-up period
Held at the main hall of 専称寺（free participation）

Since ancient times, 専称寺 has been a place of training where many monks have honed their practice.
You can experience chanting “Namu Amida Butsu” to the beat of the abbot’s mokugyo (wooden fish).
You may join partway through or participate for a short time.

4. Hawaiian Band Concert
March 21 (Sat) ①17:00〜 ②19:00〜

Performer: Ekolu Mau Kani

Ekolu Mau Kani is a hula band based in Iwaki City. By performing hula music in the historic religious space of the main hall, it fuses historical and cultural assets (専称寺・plums), the lighting production (light-up), and hula culture (music and dance). Please enjoy.

5. Bamboo Lantern Exhibition
Free viewing during the light-up period

With the cooperation of the NPO Iwaki Bamboo Project, bamboo lanterns created together with citizens will be displayed on the temple grounds.

6. Photo Contest
During the light-up period, a photo contest themed on 専称寺’s plums will be held.
