本濃研太（1978～） is a sculptor who focuses on delicate yet bold “cardboard sculptures,” formed from cardboard and painted with acrylics. He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions and is active in a wide range of fields, including participation in stage design and collaborations with fashion. This exhibition presents approximately 100 works, mainly the distinctive and original animals that 本濃 created in cardboard with respect and admiration.

To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the city and the 20th anniversary of the naming of Futabasaurus suzukii, we are holding a special exhibition “Rulers of the Sea in the Age of Dinosaurs: Plesiosaurs”! The exhibition spotlights plesiosaurs, which reigned as “rulers of the sea” during the Mesozoic, and centers on an actual complete plesiosaur skeleton fossil from the UK in our collection, explaining the evolution and ecology of plesiosaurs. This year also marks the 20th anniversary since the fossil of “フタバスズキリュウ”, discovered in the city in 1968, was described and named as the new genus and species Futabasaurus suzukii (フタバサウルス・スズキイ) in 2006. In line with this, we will specially exhibit plesiosaur fossils from Iwaki (original specimens) that are not usually on public display.

Five groups that Tono Town is proud of will each present the Jangara Nenbutsu Odori handed down in their respective areas. After the fireworks, at the memorial service for the war dead, the five groups will encircle the tower and perform simultaneously. The sight of performances surrounded by the magical light of lanterns made with Tono washi is breathtaking.
